Dr. Gopal Achari
Dr. Achari is a professor with the Center for Environmental Engineering Research and Education (CEERE) at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada. His research interests include application of photochemical processes for treatment of priority pollutants and decision making in environmental engineering. He has developed a technology for treating polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in soils using a combination of chemical extraction followed by photolytic dechlorination. The technology is now being piloted for commercial use. Dr. Achari is the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards. Dr. Achari is a member of RES'EAU-WaterNET, a Canadian strategic research network devoted to developing affordable solutions for providing clean drinking water to small, rural and First Nations communities.

Dr. Nikolaos Katopodes
Dr.
Nikolaos Katopodes received his B.S. degree from Aristotle University in Greece and his Ph.D. from the University of California Davis. He has been a faculty member in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan since 1981 and chaired the department from 2001 to 2006. Prof. Katopodes' work is in Environmental and Computational Fluid Dynamics. He has developed models for free-surface flow, nonlinear waves, and density currents. He has also worked on the theory and computation for sensing and control of flow and contaminant transport. He has served as consultant to industry, government and several international agencies. He has received several research and teaching awards and he is an ASCE and AvH Fellow.

Dr. Ernest Yanful
Dr. Ernest Yanful is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University, London, Canada. He has been involved in geotechnical, geoenvironmental and environmental engineering practice, research and education in the last 20 years. His work focuses on both fundamental and applied research in finding solutions to engineering and environmental problems associated with resource development, including mining, in Canada and internationally. Prior to joining Western University, Dr. Yanful worked for Noranda Technology Centre as Scientist, Program Leader and Senior Scientist, and for the National Hydrology Research Institute (Environment Canada, Saskatoon) as a Visiting Scientist. He has published more than 200 technical papers including 110 in refereed journals and has edited two books. Dr. Yanful has a well funded research program at Western and currently supervises 14 master's and doctoral students.
Dr. Yanful's contributions to geoenvironmental practice include significant expert consulting work on clay mineralogy, mineral-fluid interactions and the design, construction and evaluation of waste containment systems for a number of engineering consulting companies, mining industry and government organizations in Canada and overseas. He was a member of the MEND (Mine Environment Neutral Drainage) program and chaired its Prediction Committee during 1990-1993. He has been a member of many national and international panels including NSERC, Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, National Scorer for Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes for OECD, Chair of the First International Conference on Environmental Research, Technology and Policy (funded by the Canadian International Development Agency), Accra, Ghana, CEAB Civil Engineering Program Visitor, and Member of the International Scientific Committee of the Georange Program, Sweden. He is currently a visiting instructor in water and soil management at Mikelli University of Applied Science and Technology, Finland. Dr. Yanful also teaches waste management and water and sanitation short courses in Africa, notably Kenya and Ghana.
Dr. Yanful's work has been recognized with a number of awards including the 1997 Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award from the American Society for Engineering Education, 1999 Premier's Research Excellence Award in the Province of Ontario, the 2002 Faculty of Engineering Research Excellence Award, University of Western Ontario, the 2003 Award of Excellence Paper from the North American Geosynthetics Society, 2005 Thomas C. Keefer Medal from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, the 2010 Geoenvironmental Award from the Canadian Geotechnical Society, and the 2011 Harvey Rosen Award for Best Paper from the International Ozone Association. Dr. Yanful is a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.
